Silicones – Jobs
Did you know that silicones’ direct manufacturing and indirect manufacturing, along the value chain, are a substantial source of employment in China?
Silicones fuel China’s economic growth by creating jobs in the silicones industry and through the boost they give to industries that rely on silicone components.
The development of the silicone industry in China has generated many employment opportunities both within and outside the industry.
Silicone Production and Consumption
China families and businesses rely on silicones to provide the high-performance products they need to support their lives and businesses.
Silicone products are widely used in almost all industries and high-tech spaces in China including the aerospace, electronic information, construction, textile, automobile, new energy, energy conservation/environmental protection, agriculture, food processing, healthcare, household chemicals and personal care sectors. It is estimated that the use of silicone materials accounts for 30% of the total material consumption in strategic emerging industries in China.
Silicone consumption in China has been strong since the 1990s with an average annual growth rate far greater than world average and its economic growth.
China accounted for 55% of the world’s silicone production capacity and 45% for output and consumption in 2016.
LED Products/Energy Savings
Silicones used in LED lighting contributes to energy efficiency improvements in China. China’s sales of LED lighting products will account for 70% of the total sales of the lighting industry in 2020, which will save 340 billion kWh of electricity and reduce 306 million tons of CO2 emissions.
